closer view of the eye

Assess your eyes' health

Ever wonder what the inside of your eye looks like? Now you can see what the optometrist sees! Both of our clinics now offer high resolution retinal photography, which uses a computer-integrated digital imaging system to record a detailed view of the retina. Since nothing touches the eye, this procedure is painless and provides an excellent reference point for future comparisons. Furthermore, in most cases, these digital images can be obtained without dilating the eye!

Benefits of retinal photography

Once taken, these pictures can be immediately displayed, printed, or even emailed. We recommend that all of our patients take this test as it is especially important for people with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, retinal diseases, flashing lights, floaters, headaches, or a strong spectacle prescription. Digital retinal imaging allows us to evaluate the light-sensitive lining inside your eye. The high magnification and sharp resolution of the retinal tissue helps detect subtle vision-threatening eye diseases and can indicate underlying health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure.

High-tech cameras for retinal examination

Every comprehensive eye exam should include an evaluation of the retina. Digital retinal imaging is our preferred method of retinal evaluation since it allows for comparison over time, analysis with computer software, and shows you what we are examining. Digital retinal imaging reduces the likelihood of eye dilation, but does not replace it.

At Mike Cees, we use a fundus camera to examine your retina. A fundus camera or retinal camera is a specialised low-power microscope with an attached camera designed to photograph the interior surface of the eye. Fundus cameras are used by ophthalmologists and trained medical professionals to diagnose and monitor the progression of a disease. We recommend this test for diabetics, over the age of 40, in cases where glaucoma runs in the family and for general eye care. Our eye care services also include diagnosis and treatments for dry eye, glaucoma and more. Contact us for more information.
